Who does what in Scotland

Scotland has 32 councils, and each one runs the local services in its own area. There's no county and district split, so one council collects your bins and council tax and looks after recycling centres, local roads, schools and libraries. If your home is on mains water, your council tax bill also includes Scottish Water's charges.
