Bin weeks explained
How bin weeks work
Every council sets its own rota, so which bin it is this week depends on where you live. Most rotas follow one of these patterns.
A common pattern. General waste goes out one week and recycling the next, usually on the same day. If one bin went out last week, it's often the other one this week.
Some councils name each week after a bin colour, such as blue week or green week. Colours change from council to council, so a blue bin can be recycling in one area and general waste in the next.
Some councils number or letter their weeks, such as week 1 and week 2. Each week has its own bins. Your week depends on your street, so neighbours a few roads away can be on a different week.
Food waste caddies are usually collected every week, and in some areas recycling is too. These go out alongside whichever main bin is due.
