The UK's bin collection reminder app
Bin collections on bank holidays, what you need to know
Bank holidays throw off bin collection schedules across the UK. Collections get moved, delayed or shifted by a day and it's not always easy to know what's happening in your area. Loci keeps track of your local schedule and alerts you automatically when anything changes.

Stay on top of bin day even when the schedule changes
Bank holidays affect bin collections differently depending on where you live. Some councils move collections forward by a day. Others push them back. A few carry on as normal. Without checking your council's website, or getting a timely reminder, it's easy to miss your bin day entirely.
Loci tracks your local bin collection dates, including any changes around bank holidays, and sends you a reminder before each collection. You set your address once, and we handle the rest. No more missed collections or checking back on the council website every time a bank holiday comes around.

Bank holiday bin collection FAQs
It depends on your local council. Most councils in the UK adjust their bin collection schedule around bank holidays, typically moving collections forward or back by one day. A small number keep their collections running as normal. The best way to find out is to check your council's website or use an app like Loci, which tracks your schedule and sends you updates automatically.
Most councils that change their schedule will move affected collections to the following day. So if your normal collection day is a Monday bank holiday, it may move to Tuesday. Some councils move the whole week's collections forward by one day. Loci keeps track of these changes so you get a reminder at the right time.
Usually not. Most councils suspend collections on bank holiday Mondays and reschedule them, often by one day. This applies to bank holidays across the year including the May bank holidays, Easter Monday and late August. Loci will notify you if your collection is moving.
Christmas and New Year tend to cause the most disruption, with councils often rearranging multiple weeks of collections. Easter and the May bank holidays also affect schedules significantly. Loci tracks these changes throughout the year so you're not caught out at any of them.
Once you've set your address in the Loci app, we track your local bin collection schedule on your behalf. When your council updates their collection dates around a bank holiday, Loci reflects those changes and sends you a reminder ahead of your next collection. You don't need to check anything yourself.
Yes. Loci is completely free to download and use for residents across the UK. You can find it on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. There are no subscription fees or hidden costs.
Loci is rolling out across the UK and new councils are added regularly. If your council isn't live yet, you can submit a request through the app and we'll prioritise adding it.
If your bin day has passed and nothing was collected, it's worth waiting one more day in case of a further delay. If there's still no collection, you can report a missed bin to your council directly. The Loci app can help you stay informed so this is less likely to happen. You can also find out more on our missed bin collection page.
